'I love it': Ian Wright and Jamie Carragher amazed by 23-year-old Newcastle player

Ian Wright and Jamie Carragher have both been blown away by what one of Newcastle United’s best players has said this week.

Anthony Gordon has been the talk of the Toon, with his interview with Gary Neville going down very well.

The 23-year-old Newcastle United winger came across incredibly well, openly speaking out about his ambitions as a player and what he does to prepare himself for a game.

It was very insightful, while we also discovered that Gordon does not do any work in the gym at Newcastle United, while he also shared that his best friend at St James’ Park is Elliot Anderson.

The most impressive thing Anthony Gordon said during Gary Neville interview

But the most interesting aspect of the interview was Gordon outlining his ambitions, and explaining why they were the reason he left Everton. The winger stated that he could not achieve what he wanted to at Goodison Park, which is why he did not hesitate to say yes to Newcastle United’s offer.

Gordon also stated he spends a lot of time preparing for games, visualising what might happen in a match to ensure that he knows what to do should the situation become a reality. It is something that Mo Salah does, and he is certainly a good player to copy!

Although I do wonder if Gordon visualised Newcastle United playing so terribly against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night…

Gordon’s attitude and mentality has really impressed pundits Ian Wright and Jamie Carragher, who have both expressed their admiration for Newcastle’s number 10 on the latest episode of the Stick To Football podcast.

“With Anthony Gordon, he is doing something else to take him where he wants to go,” Wright said.

“This is what I like about him. He has recognised, even when he said he had to go to Newcastle, as soon as it came up he said I’m going, because he’s trying to go to the next level and the way he’s preparing, he’s preparing himself to go there. I love it, it’s good to see.”

Carragher added: “Do you know the thing I love about it, he’s a young lad from Liverpool and to get into visualisation feels a bit like ‘oh’. To admit and think I might get some stick off his mates but that thing of like I don’t care, I want to get to the top.”

Gordon has changed people’s perception with revealing interview

When Newcastle were first linked with signing Gordon, not every Toon fan was convinced – despite the Toon recruitment team having a great track record at that point.

Some supporters questioned his attitude after previous encounters when he played for Everton, but Gordon quickly proved that there was nothing to worry about – although that incident at Brentford is one he will want to forget.

Gordon has since proven he can be a top level player, becoming a difference maker at St James’ Park. He has done that with his goals and assists, boasting 20 goal contributions this season.

His form has led to an England debut, and now he will have ambitions to go to the Euros. No doubt he will be visualising what could happen in Germany, should he get the call from Gareth Southgate.

There has always been a stigma attached to Gordon, and that is why the interview with Gary Neville is so impressive. He has shown a different side, much to the delight of Wright and Carragher.
