Report: Tottenham want to give their £27m player a new contract after claims he could force move away from Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be working on extending one of their players’ contracts in what would be a surprise move.

Spurs’ primary focus at the moment is on the North London derby against Arsenal on Sunday.

A win against their fierce rivals will give them a huge boost in their pursuit of a top-four finish, and that will be at the forefront of Ange Postecoglou‘s mind.

Irrespective of what happens from now until the end of the season, Tottenham are expected to be very active in the summer transfer window.

All eyes will be on incomings but there could be a few Spurs players who could leave as well.

However, one player who everyone thought was going to be sold this summer could now end up getting a brand new Tottenham contract.

Tottenham make surprise Giovani Lo Celso decision

Giovani Lo Celso has been at Tottenham since the summer of 2019.

The Argentine initially joined the club on loan from Real Betis and that move was made permanent in the following summer for £27.2 million (BBC).

Lo Celso came in with a lot of hype, but the Argentine just hasn’t been able to deliver for Tottenham on a consistent basis over the last few years.

The midfielder even spent two spells away on loan at Villarreal, and everyone felt at the time that his Tottenham career was over.

However, following his return to Spurs last summer, Ange Postecoglou kept hold of him, and Lo Celso could soon have a new lease of life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

TuttoMercatoWeb reveal this week that Spurs want to offer Lo Celso a new two-year contract in the coming days.

It has been claimed that Barcelona remain interested in the former PSG man, but Tottenham have already started working on tying him down to a new deal.

Lo Celso could force a move away from Tottenham

Giovani Lo Celso is by no means the first-choice at Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou clearly prefers James Maddison in the number 10 role, and even though the Englishman hasn’t been great in recent weeks, he’s the one that gets the nod.

Lo Celso has played just 464 minutes of football in the Premier League this season. His last start came against Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve.

Estadio Deportivo in Spain revealed earlier this month that Lo Celso was ‘sold him a bike that didn’t even get off the ground’ by Daniel Levy and Postecoglou.

He’s not at all happy with his game time, which is why the report claims he is ready to force a move away from Tottenham this summer.

That’s why the news that Spurs are planning to offer Lo Celso a new deal is such a big surprise.
