Fortnite Leaks Reveal A Sliding Mechanic In The Works

Epic Games are reportedly introducing a sliding mechanic into Fortnite Battle Royale.

Fortnite Battle Royale leaker HYPEX revealed today that Epic is developing a sliding mechanic. Fortnite has not featured such a mechanic since its release in 2017 outside of the ice block feet. Other games, such as the Call of Duty series, prominently utilize sliding to increase mobility around each map. It’ll be interesting to see how Epic Games plans to implement a new form of movement in a game that continues to evolve despite its age.

HYPEX took to Twitter earlier with some premature information about sliding in Fortnite. The reliable leaker says that the mechanic will change a player’s field of vision (FOV), cause their camera to shake and has a cooldown of two seconds.

He added that it could be an item or an actual core movement option in the game. If true, it would grow Fortnite’s seemingly infinite choices. The game has already established building as perhaps the most important fundamental to learn. However, Launch Pads, Shadow Stones and Slip Streams allow players to move in ways that differ from other games.

There is no anticipated release date known at this time, but we can expect the mechanic to appear in one of the usual Tuesday patches. Chapter 2 - Season 8 is still in its infancy; it’s safe to say Epic has pulled out all of the stops. Other rumors regarding this season include mountable animals and an Armored Wall Trap — both of which could drastically change the game’s playstyle, as would the leaked sliding ability.

We’ll keep you posted with more information throughout the coming weeks!
