Official West Ham website: Key player with 20 PL starts this season is a doubt for Spurs

West Ham United head into the must-win Premier League clash with Tottenham tomorrow night with a few injury headaches.

Hammers boss David Moyes is under real pressure ahead of the West Ham vs Tottenham Premier League face-off.

He has already confirmed that Alphonse Areola will miss the game, and now we could be without another player as well.

Sure, he’s done a fantastic job since returning to the club in December 2019, but can he really take us on to the next level? That question is highly debatable, but I have to say, I really don’t think he can.

The proof will be in the pudding in a couple of months, when the Premier League and the Europa League are done and dusted.

The West Ham fans won’t be happy that our old nemesis Andy Madley will be on VAR duty for the game at the London Stadium tomorrow night.

Finishing inside the top seven is not in our hands after the disastrous result on Saturday, and nothing less than three points against Spurs will do now.

It seems like we may have to do it with someone who’s started two thirds of our Premier League games this season…

West Ham player could miss Tottenham Premier League clash

Hopefully the Hammers players will be bang up for this one. It’s a London derby and nothing less than 110% effort will do from everyone who features in the match.

Injury problems are once again giving Moyes a headache ahead of the game though…

According to West Ham’s official website, the Hammers could be without one man in particular tomorrow night, aside from Areola.

Nayef Aguerd has started 20 Premier League games for the Hammers this season (Transfermarkt).

Sure, he hasn’t been great for us this season, and a recent report claimed that he could be sold this summer.

That said, there are two things he possesses that we really do miss when he doesn’t play – explosive recovery pace and his ability to play out from the back with line-splitting passes.

There are certainly faults in Aguerd’s game, but if he can iron out the bad concentration and poor positional awareness, I still feel like we could have a solid defender on our hands. Let’s be real here, he’s a better option for us than the woeful Kurt Zouma is right now.

If the Moroccan is unavailable for West Ham for our Premier League clash with Tottenham tomorrow, it will be a blow for us in my opinion.
