'Unplayable' forward is still waiting to discuss new deal, Chelsea are interested - journalist

Chelsea could have the opportunity to swoop for one extremely talented forward this summer.

The Blues are likely to be in the market for a new striker, with Mauricio Pochettino currently lacking options up front.

If Armando Broja does not stay at Stamford Bridge after his loan at Fulham, that will leave Nicolas Jackson as the only recognised No.9 at Chelsea going into the 2024/25 season.

They have been heavily linked with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, but you would have to question if the club are actually in a position to spend potentially £100m+ on the Nigerian as they look to avoid breaking the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

So who could be a cheaper alternative to Osimhen?

Chelsea interested in forward yet to sign new contract

If Chelsea fail to sign Osimhen, another man from Serie A could be an option for them.

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti recently claimed on X that the Blues are one club who have been gathering information on AS Roma’s Paulo Dybala.

According to Galetti, the 30-year-old is yet to open discussions with Roma over a new contract.

His existing deal expires in 2025, meaning that Chelsea could have a good chance to sign him this summer for a reasonable price as his current employers look to avoid losing him on a free.

In the past, his former manager at Juventus Massimiliano Allegri has described him as “unplayable”.

Chelsea should also consider signing one of Paulo Dybala’s team-mates

You would not necessarily put him at the top of your list, especially when there are centre-forwards like Osimhen around.

However, if Chelsea do find themselves struggling to land their main striker targets for whatever reason, Dybala’s Roma team-mate Tammy Abraham may not be the worst alternative.

The 26-year-old, of course, knows Chelsea well after his time at the club and has Premier League experience.

He scored 27 goals in his first season at Roma, showing the firepower he could potentially bring to Pochettino’s side.

Abraham is actually one of Chelsea’s most expensive sales after joining Roma for £34m back in 2021.
