Report: Liverpool have now made contact to sign £47m Real Madrid star Chelsea reportedly want

Chelsea could find themselves in a battle with Liverpool to sign one Real Madrid player this summer.

The Blues will be expected to enter the transfer market, with defence being one area that they are likely to look at.

Thiago Silva’s time at Stamford Bridge looks to be coming to an end. His contract expires at the end of the season and his wife Belle recently hinted that this is indeed his last campaign as a Chelsea player.

The Brazilian’s imminent departure could see Chelsea sign a new centre-back.

They may also need to buy a left-back as well, as Ben Chilwell continues to pick up injuries.

Liverpool make contact to sign Chelsea target

If Chelsea do decide to sign a new player for the left side of their defence, it looks like they could turn to Real Madrid.

Mundo Deportivo claimed earlier this month that they want Ferland Mendy.

However, since then, L’Equipe has reported that Liverpool have already made contact with the Frenchman’s entourage.

Arsenal are also believed to be interested in Mendy.

Real Madrid signed the 28-year-old from Lyon in a £47m deal back in 2019.

The risk with Ferland Mendy

Like Chilwell, Mendy has picked up quite a few injuries in recent years.

However, he has managed to stay fit for most of this season, making 32 appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid.

The France international has the experience and has played at the top level so naturally ticks a lot of boxes.

Of course, Chelsea have been targeting players a lot younger than 28 and after their injury hell this term, will they really want to bring in someone with Mendy’s record? All in all, then, the former Lyon man is probably not at the top of the Blues’ list ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
