Jose Enrique sends Aston Villa two word message after Unai Emery contract news yesterday

Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has sent Aston Villa a two word message after Unai Emery signed a contract extension in the West Midlands.

The Spaniard’s current deal now runs until the summer of 2027 and comes amid interest from Bayer Munich.

In an official club statement, the Villa boss said: “We are enjoying our way together with Villa fans, the club owners, management and this great group of players that we are proud of.

“Me and the football management… we share the vision of the owners. Nassef [Sawiris] and Wes [Edens] are very supportive and respectful, and we have a good environment and the right structure to develop this football club.”

Unsurprisingly, messages have arrived after the news of the Spaniard’s contract extension.

Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor took the opportunity to mock his talkSPORT colleague Andy Goldstein. “I thought he was going to Manchester United @andygoldstein05,” he wrote.

Another interesting message arrived from Enrique, who made his thoughts on his compatriot clear.

Commenting on Villa’s Instagram post, he wrote: “Top [emoji] manager.”

Unai Emery’s contract extension at Aston Villa a massive statement of intent

Considering the rumour that had emerged in recent weeks, this feels like a massive statement of intent from NSWE.

Villa have one of Europe’s elite managers at the helm. To become a regular feature in the top four requires ambition; this is a statement.

Per FotMob, Emery has amassed a 57 per cent win rate during his time at Villa Park. Only during his spell with PSG did he manage higher.

The 52-year-old has been a success nearly everywhere he’s been; even at Arsenal, he won 55 per cent of the time.

Evidently, he was mistreated at The Emirates and it’s Aston Villa who are now reaping the rewards.
