'He was incredible': Pundit actually really impressed by £14m Chelsea player despite Arsenal thrashing

Shaka Hislop has suggested that one Chelsea player was actually incredible at times on what proved to be an utterly miserable night for the Blues against Arsenal.

Just as Mauricio Pochettino‘s side appeared to be in the process of turning a corner, they go and produce one of their most abject displays of the season.

Of course, Arsenal deserve real credit for handling the pressure and running riot in the second-half. But the Chelsea capitulation was worrying considering that the Blues had gone into the weekend having not lost since their first game in February.

And perhaps the 5-0 scoreline could have been a lot worse were it not for one Chelsea player at the Emirates.

Djordje Petrovic praised despite Chelsea thrashing

Djordje Petrovic could have arguably done better for the opening goal of the game, with Leandro Trossard firing the ball in at his near post.

But the 24-year-old more than atoned for the potential error. Speaking on ESPN, Shaka Hislop suggested that the goalkeeper was the standout performer against the Gunners.

“Little bit of a mistake, as I mentioned in the highlight, for the goal. But take nothing away from Arsenal’s performance.

“And while I talk about the mistake from Petrovic, he was incredible for the rest of the first-half. It quite easily could have been three or four. Arsenal were just that much better than Chelsea,” he said.

Few talking about impressive piece of business from Blues

Much has been made about how much Chelsea have spent in the last few years. And it is definitely fair to say that a number of their big-money purchases have not come close to living up to expectations.

With that, it tends to go under the radar that Chelsea signed Petrovic for just £14 million from New England Revolution.

He is not the finished article yet. Certainly, neither he or Robert Sanchez looks set to write their name in the pantheon of the very best goalkeepers Chelsea have had down the years.

But he made six saves against Arsenal on Tuesday, according to Whoscored. And that included a couple of really impressive stops.

It is too soon to take any positives from the game for the Blues. But Petrovic definitely ensured that it was not even worse for them.
