'I followed him': Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says he has been 'really impressed' by Tottenham favourite

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are set to lock horns in a huge north London derby at N17 this Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs will play host to Mikel Arteta’s Gunners in a 2pm Premier League kick-off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Besides the obvious bragging rights in north London, this derby will have huge ramifications for both Tottenham and Arsenal in terms of their goals for the season.

Should Postecoglou’s charges win, they’ll boost their chances of finishing in the Premier League’s top four – and also deal a major blow to Arsenal’s title hopes.

However, if the Gunners win, they’ll be able to keep the pressure on Manchester City, whilst also costing Spurs in their pursuit of a Champions League place.

Postecoglou has enjoyed a solid maiden season at Tottenham, quickly turning things around at a club that limped to an eighth-placed league finish last year.

Indeed, Spurs were dark horses for the title at one point, and while they weren’t expected to maintain that for the whole season, they’re still in the picture for Champions League qualification.

Arteta, speaking to the Arsenal media team on Friday ahead of the game, sung Postecoglou’s praises.

What has Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said about Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou?

On the job the Tottenham favourite has done so far, Arteta said: “I’m really impressed with what he’s done and also prior to that.

“I knew him when he was in the Australian national team, and when he was in Japan as well, I followed him when he was at Celtic, and he’s always been super clear with a really clear direction and identity of how his teams play, and I love the way his teams play.

“So, I think he’s been very good.”

Despite the huge rivalry between the two clubs, there’s certainly a level of mutual respect between the two managers.

However, that will certainly be tested in a fierce game between two rivals for whom their goals for the season could fall to bits if they’re second best on Sunday.
