'It's tough': Neco Williams issues referee verdict after Forest's red card claim vs Brighton

Nottingham Forest right-back Neco Williams has admitted his frustration following the game against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Welshman was at the centre of the controversy on the south coast after he was on the receiving end of that tackle.

Neco Williams escaped the tackle without any significant injury and has been speaking about the incident ahead of the trip to Kenilworth Road.

Neco Williams referee verdict

A huge game is coming up for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men this weekend as they face fellow strugglers Luton Town.

They go into the game on the back of a four game losing streak which was extended last weekend against Brighton.

Once again, Forest were left feeling aggrieved after Jakub Moder’s dangerous challenge on Williams was not awarded a red card.

The Welshman has since been speaking to Sky Sports about the incident and he has even shared some sympathy with the referees. He said: “It is frustrating. Not just for me, not for the manager, not for the players. Not for the fans, it’s everyone.

“For me, it was a red card. I don’t really know VAR haven’t seen that as a serious, serious foul. But we can’t feel sorry for ourselves. We got to put that behind us now and move forward and it is frustrating. I don’t want to sit here and make excuses. But most of these decisions now that have been going against us.

“For me they’re the wrong decisions, there just needs to be some consistency with all these decisions. I know it is tough for them [referees] but I feel like all these decisions just going against us. And it’s like every other week now you’re seeing after our games where decisions are going against us and you just don’t know why it’s happening.”

Have to move on

That is probably as fair of an assessment as anyone is going to give on Forest’s issues with VAR and the referees in the Premier League.

It is hard to stand by the decision which was given on the weekend against Brighton.

But it has been given and there is nothing Forest can do about it now. Their position in the league table will not allow any room for complacency.

The game on Saturday is an absolutely huge one when it comes to their survival in the top flight.

Espirito Santo’s men will be coming up against a side who could leapfrog them in the table with a win at Kenilworth Road.

And going into the international break inside the bottom three is the last thing Forest will be wanting.

It is completely understandable why Forest will feel frustrated after some of the decisions which have gone against them this season.

But feeling sorry for themselves isn’t going to do their survival hopes any good.
